THERE IS MUCH TO CELEBRATE IN SHREWSBURY, WITH THE RELATIVE LOW LEVELS OF CRIME AND DISORDER IN RELATION TO OTHER DISTRICTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

BUT THERE IS STILL MORE TO DO, TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE DOWN, CRIME, DISORDER AND RAISING THE LEVELS OF REASSURANCE AND PUBLIC SAFETY.

TO ACHIEVE THE VISION OF MAKING SHREWSBURY THE FIRST CHOICE FOR THE SHOPPING, CULTURAL AND LEISURE NEEDS OF RESIDENTS, VISITORS AND PEOPLE WHO DO BUSINESS IN THE SHREWSBURY. ALL THE COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP MEMBERS BELIEVE THAT IT IS ONLY BY WORKING IN GENUINE PARTNERSHIP THAT THE CHALLENGES AHEAD CAN BE TACKLED SUCCESSFULLY.

Foreword

Foreword

Crime has a detrimental impact on quality of life. Victims and witnesses suffer financial, emotional loss and the high perception and concerns of crime, can mean people, feel unsafe, particularly at night.

Thriving and prosperous communities are characterised by street, parks and open spaces that are clean, safe and attractive - areas that local people are proud of and want to spend their time.

The Community Safety Partnership’s greatest priority for the community is to work towards a community that is free from crime and anti social behaviour. Reducing people from their perceptions and addressing their concerns about crime and insecurity which damages their quality of life. It is a fundamental belief of the partnership, that the community demands action. To show that the partnership means business this strategy has given the partnership real opportunity to demonstrate effective partnership working and a determination to improve the borough as a place to work, live and be proud of.

The strategy reflects a considerable amount of work in progress. Please read this community strategy for 2005-08, it is for you to be consulted on, and it will form a part of theme groups, local partnership interventions and study groups.
